The Promise

The respeggt label promises: “Free of Chick Culling”. Thanks to a complete verification of the supply chain, it is guaranteed that only products that meet the “Free of Chick Culling” requirement are allowed to receive the label.

The Label

The consumer may rest assured that labelled respeggt-eggs come from a supply chain which complies in its entirety with the principles of the respeggt promise. By implementing a blockchain technology it ensures that every egg with the respeggt label is fully traced and verified for compliance with the respeggt promise.

Traced from farm to table!

Often third party certification authorities check and verify foods only at one particular point of the supply chain, where the product promise originates. Unlike third party certification authorities the blockchain system offers a neutral and open platform that ensures the verification of the supply chain from beginning to end.

How do we make sure that everyone keeps the respeggt-promise?

Blockchain technology lays the ground work for tracing the respeggt-eggs. Each member of the supply chain is obliged to record specific information about the products – in this case the eggs – via an app at certain times. The data is decentralized and will be stored automatically encrypted in independent databases. No third party is required to authorize transactions, but there are rules to which all participants – including the operator of the blockchain system – must abide. If anything in the verification process appears to be incorrect, the preceding and following participants in the supply chain are automatically informed, depending on the sanctioning mechanism. Allowing them to investigate the issue and resolve it if necessary. If fraud or forgery is detected, sanctions may even be imposed. The process provides a tamper-proof promise with regard to the labelled products and thus lays the foundation for the respeggt promise.

The producer code in detail

The producer code indicates where each egg comes from. The code consists of different digits, which stand for different husbandry systems, countries of origin and the respective farms of origin.
In the case of respeggt-eggs, a respeggt stamp will be found on the egg for further identification.

The first digit gives information about the respective husbandry system.
A 0 means that it is an egg from organic production.
A 1 means that is an egg laid by free-range hens. Barn-raised hens lay eggs that are indicated with the number 2. Whereas eggs with the number 3 come from battery cage hens.

The following letters stand for the respective country code and indicate the egg’s country of origin.
The abbreviation DE refers to fresh eggs from Germany.

Every egg producer has a company registration number which can be used to identify them. In this way, the egg can be traced back – if necessary – to the laying hen house. Finally, a respeggt stamp is printed on the respeggt-eggs.
